(4035) Rotation, Rotation System, or Rotational working
A method of managing an irrigation supply system such that an irrigator, or small group of irrigators, receive water delivery for a fixed period of time, after which the water is moved to the next turnout(s). Deliveries are rotated at all irrigators so that the supply again becomes available before crop stresses can occur. The period of time required to make the turn of the system is described as `rotational turn`. The rotational method, called ‘warabandi’, is commonly practiced in northern India and Pakistan, for equitable allocation of the available water in an irrigation system, by turns fixed according to a time roster, specifying the day, time, and duration of supply to each irrigator.
